This is even happening in Australia, where the PM Scott Morrison picked a candidate for our upcoming election who is vocal against trans women competing against cis women in sports. There is talk that he knowingly picked her precisely because of her outspoken anti-trans stance, hoping to gain the conservative vote in other electorates. The unfortunate thing is that the candidate (she doesn't deserve me saying her name) has been silenced by her own party, so the media cannot dig into her positions and policies.

I'd like to think that Australia is very progressive and that many of us are vocal about all this transphobic rhetoric, but I suspect that many still don't understand (or even want to understand) the truth about gender and sex, and it's precisely because we are led to believe that trans and gender diverse people are coming for our genitals and our very way of life.

God, I people would remember that oftentimes it's not about them. At all.
