I’m glad to have sparked your imagination. This is a great read and very thought-provoking! I also think bisexuality needs to be uplifted to bring better social equality for all sexual persuasions.

As I noted in my article, I think the main issue is that society cannot box bisexual people like gays and lesbians. Society has this unconscious idea that gays are feminine and lesbians are masculine. But where do bisexuals fit? It’s quite clear that sexuality does not revolve around personality, and yet the stereotypes continue to permeate.

Sexuality is fluid for many people. I’m sure if I really wanted to, I could have sex with a female. But I know I won’t really enjoy it. It just doesn’t feel natural for me. But I know I could attempt it. And I think that makes me 95% gay.

I remember when I was younger, I saw a psychologist. And he said that sexuality is like a scatterplot graph. And he believed that only 5-10% of the population are fully gay or straight. The rest lie somewhere in the middle.

The problem in society is that we fear change. Once we’ve labelled ourselves we don’t like to deviate from that label. There’s a lot of straight foolery with other men, but straight men won’t consider it as gay. They’ll pass it off as friendly fun. Nothing to do with being gay.

In fact, women are more likely than men to feel some sexual attraction towards other women. And a lot of these studies imply that men are not being as truthful as women are about their sexuality. The stronghold of masculinity is still pervading society. And I think if we’re ever going to bring bisexuality into the spotlight, we have to differentiate sexuality from masculinity and femininity. We have to share the real truth that sexuality is a fluid experience, not a concrete one. Your sexual attractions don’t lie at opposite ends of the spectrum. You are allowed to swing.

That last part is important. Straight people, and sometimes gay people, are not willing to swing the other way. They fear that they’ll lose their identity, the label they’ve clung to for so long. But as we know, gay and straight are just labels. They’re not earned badges.

I’d like to see a less sexually repressed society, where there is freedom to swing and experiment, even in adulthood.
