As a drag queen myself, I agree. I think reading is fundamental, but not THAT fundamental. It's a great way to offer worthy criticism to others, and it's a great way for new queens to build thick skin. After all, as Bernadette Bassenger said in Priscilla, "being a man one day and a woman the next isn't an easy thing to do." The big difference is, drag queens can wipe off the makeup and change into boys clothes, whereas transgender people cannot. But the truism fits, since being so different is hard, so you must learn to take harsh criticism when doing drag. But it's not so fundamental if it's dragging others down. It's not part of the job requirement to read other people to filth, and it seems some new age drag queens are not getting the memo.
